Anasazi Places Cottonwood Dark Water Ghost Light Horses Meeting Sky Patina Sourdough Trail Tepee Creek Waterfalls Winter Water		On recent trips to the Colorado Plateau, I have become fascinated by the remains of structures built by the Anasazi almost a thousand years ago. They seem to fit into their environment as if they had grown in place—which they did. Local materials and simple forms allowed fluid integration with adjacent structures and the surrounding cave or cliff. I am particularly interested in the way the rock matrix supports, shapes, and completes the human constructions.   Beyond its physical role, the rock also plays a more spiritual one. It may be soaring and light or heavy and dark, inviting or forbidding; it may recall water or flame, skies and clouds, or even animate beings. The former inhabitants must have felt themselves as intimately connected to the rock as the dwellings they left behind.		Images
