This ongoing study of horses, with subjects close and constantly moving, called for a radical change in technique: camera handheld, zone of focus narrow, click rate high. Animals loom into the frame, the arrangement of shapes an ever-changing collage. I try to capture configurations that have an abstract appeal, while being portraits of individuals or sets I am coming to know. The horses are great fun to work with, physically interacting like no other subject. I just wish they wouldn't lick the lens.
